Thomas Byrne and Alix Kuijpers have known each other their entire lives, but it wasn’t until early 2025 that they finally found a way for their careers to cross paths, and the result is an ongoing live performance series combining talented local jazz musicians with some of the top contemporary dancers from across the country. Our query: what happens when you combine jazz-funk with improvised contemporary dance? Curated by award-winning choreographer Alix Kuijpers and jazz sensation Thomas Byrne, IT’S ALIVE brings together some of the best of local and interstate talent across dance and music for a magnetic and intimate experience.
