‘Peculiar Shadows’, a Adelaide based contemporary dance company, was founded in September 2026 by choreographer Alix Kuijpers. The company functions as an evolving entity that houses the various projects, choreographic works and independent intitiatives that Kuijpers continues to produce on Kaurna Yerta. Peculiar Shadows seeks to be a connection point for creative collision and experimentation, whilst focusing whole heartedly on bringing Adelaide forward into the national and international conversation for dance. Concurrently, Peculiar Shadows encompasses the ongoing touring of 2023 award winning work ‘i know the end’, deliverance of performance initiative ‘ITS ALIVE’ and dance-research platform ‘Adelaide Movement Conference’. Foreseably, Peculiar Shadows in undergoing the development of it’s first major ensemble work ‘Horses in my Dreams, as well as producing and programming a full season of new works and collaborations at the 2027 Adelaide Fringe Festival.

This is only the beginning. It’s time to step into the light.
