Alix Kuijpers is a multidisciplinary performing artist based in contemporary dance and choreography, specialising in sound design, whilst brandishing a queer based, independent practice. Kuijpers is an Adelaide College of the Arts graduate and specializes in queer based storytelling through their focus on improvisation and dance theatre practices. Early accolades include Kuijpers becoming the first person in South Australia to complete a dance honours at a SA institution, receiving a First-Class distinction for the solo work IMMATERIAL. Kuijpers then went on to secure the 2023 Adelaide Fringe Emerging Artist Award for their duo i know the end, as well as the 2024 Centre Stage and Dancehouse Residency awards at The Mill for their solo work Grim Grinning Ghosts. Kuijpers has continued to perform and create internationally, being a participant in 2025’s inaugural B12:Mavericks program in Berlin, Germany supported by the Ian Potter Cultural Trust. Through his ongoing work across Europe between 2023 and 2025, Kuijpers has performed and collaborated on works with Johannes Wieland, Antony Hamilton, Jacob Jonas as well as Annamari Keskinen and Ryan Mason of Thar Be Dragons. Kuijpers is also recognized for their practice in sound, contributing composition to many notable works such as The Leftovers by Motus Collective, Bypass by CircusSA and Peach Season by Fern Mines. Kuijpers has recently returned to Adelaide creating a new duo in collaboration with Isobel Stolinski, Starry Eyed, which won Best Dance during the 2026 Adelaide Fringe and was created through residency with Australian Dance Theatre. Kuijpers also facilitates regular opportunities for local dancers through performance platforms New Romantics and It’s Alive with jazz band Murk Lurker, both shows of which performed in Adelaide Fringe 2026.
