If we look deep within ourselves, we know deep down what we are, we know that the roots of our passions and desires stem from inconsequential decisions that give nothing, yet everything to the universe around us. When you look at the history of our organism, humans want to know and be known, to dance, to pulsate, and to do so despite the space around us eventually consuming us. This is the ethos that leads the driving force of Astral Ghost Orchid, a solo work by Kaurna based dance and sound artist Alix Kuijpers. Astral Ghost Orchid is an investigation into our current fascination, division, nihilism and wonder around ephemerality and the queer experience in response to our current political climate. A cinematic rave-fuelled opus inspired by diva iconography, Astral Ghost Orchid features the use of live video feed inviting the audience in with voyeuristic intention.
